PC Performance Tweaking Guide

"PC's seem to get slower the older they are".

This might sound like old wives tales but there is truth in it.  PC's really do get clogged up with old junk and end up going slower.

The good news is that this can be fixed with simple software.

You need to:-

Clean system
Defrag Drives
Automate it!

Cleaning the system

First get rid of the junk you do not need, delete old mail, empty the bins, do proper Sage year end procedure

Now for the big clean.  Download and install CCleaner http://www.piriform.com/ and run both a file clean and a registry clean. This product is FOC, please give something to the developer to encourage continued development

Defragment the Drives

The files on hard disks, become fragmented, and get spread all over the place, this makes them slower to read, defragmentation fixes this, but takes a long time to run.

Download and install MyDefrag http://www.mydefrag.com/  This product is FOC, please give something to the developer to encourage continued development

This allows a variety of options for defragmenting drives.

(You do not need to use this program, Windows has a built in defragmenter, it is not as good, but it is better than nothing)

Automate it

If you want to automate defragmentation, you may need to also disable the automatic windows defragmentation, refer to the help file in My#Defrag for instruction on disabling the built in defragmentation

CCleaner and MyDefrag have command line interfaces so are ideal to run as scheduled tasks overnight.
