Sage 50 - Enabling Network Setup in Sage V2012

When you run the active setup wizard and create your data share it also enables the "Network Setup" option in the tools menu which greatly simplifies the installation of network clients.

The problem is if you did not tick that option when running the active setup wizard or did not use the active setup wizard, because you were upgrading, then this is lost to you.

If your Network Setup option is missing from the menu then this guide will help you get it.

There are a few things you need to do:

First you need to establish the network share where you are going to keep the install files, typically this would the the fileshare you use for SageData on the server.  This needs to be a UNC name not a local name eg \\server\SageShare\  not D:\SageData

Now you need to find your Sage "company" file.  The normal place for it in V2012 is C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Sage\Accounts\2012 for XP and C:\Programdata\Sage\Accounts\2012

Note: Application Data and Programdata are hidden folders

Now in the local directory where your company file is there are files with the extension .usr copy all of them to the server file share for your sagedata (these are al the keycodes for sage, cis, 3rd party activation and so on)

Create a new file called COMPANY.UNC in notepad enter one line of text which is the UNC path to your Sage Data from step 1 eg \\server\SageShare\ save the file.

Now copy the local COMPANY file to the server file share.

You have now emulated what Sage does during Active setup.

Open Sage go to Tools and the Network Setup option will be there, you can now use the wizard and the install CD to build a network installation package.
