Sage 50 Common errors, problems and fixes

Any generic problems not covered, please contact us.

Before trying ANYTHING, get your system up to date by applying the latest service packs and fixes for your version of line 50 from the Sage website.  http://www.sage.co.uk/accountsupdates

If you are on older versions you should contact sage support for the latest updates/service packs, these are FREE to all users.

Sage asks for serial number and activation code.

You are probably using the original unregistered activation code, you need to use the new one they gave you when you registered, hint: you might have written it on the inside front cover of the manual. Look for a code in pen not a printed one...  You can ring Sage and get them to give it to you anyway you do not need sagecover to get this, the number is 0845 111 6666.

If you are a workstation user, you can copy the sage.usr file from another workstation to this location.

Sage warns you that the username is in use and that terrible things may happen if you clear the username.

As long as you are sure that no one is logged in on another PC using that username it is safe to clear it.

Sage tells you 'Username in use. The program cannot connect you at this time'

Make sure you have the latest updates.  Locate your data directory (ACCDATA) in it you will find a file called QUEUE.DTA rename or delete it, things should now work.

Sage can't find Data

This typically happens when you are a network user and you delete the mapped drive letter or log on with a different username that does not have the drive letter mapping done.  You just have to map the correct share on the server back to the correct drive letter.

Sage is using the wrong data

You need to change the datapath that sage is using for this installation.

Go to the workstation installation path eg:  C:\Program Files\Sage\Accounts

Locate the file called "Company" it has no file extension, open it using Notepad

The file contain the path you your data in Plain Text (Don't use wordpad or word or anything other than a simple text editor) alter the path to the correct location and all should be well.
